Project Achievement
The Jockey Club CADENZA e-Tools for Elder Care project has laid a strong foundation for implementing the WHO's Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) framework in Hong Kong. Through innovations in mobile health, caregiver education, and community engagement, the project has equipped healthcare and social professionals, as well as frontline workers, with comprehensive knowledge on geriatric health topics and elder-care skills, as well as empowers older adults and caregivers to support healthy ageing and independent living.
Free Online Elder Care Courses
To enhance the capacity of formal and informal caregivers, the project launched a total of 17 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and over 250 educational videos on age-related health topics between 2019 and 2025. Some videos were made available in Filipino, Indonesian, and Mandarin to support diverse caregivers, reaching over 2 million viewers. More than 5,500 learners completed 18,500 modules. Furthermore, the project awarded over 15,000 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) certificates to nurses.
iHealth Screen App
Since its launch in 2021, the iHealth Screen app has become a veen ital mHealth tool with over 40,000 downloads and nearly 50,000 health screenings. It supports assessments for frailty, sarcopenia, and nutrition, and since a major upgrade in November 2024, it includes WHO-aligned Intrinsic Capacity monitoring. An institutional version was also rolled out for NGOs in 2025. Noteworthy achievements include the app ranking among the top 6 in the Android and top 10 in the iOS under Health and Fitness category.
Hong Kong Elder Care Resource Map
A major upgrade in November 2024 introduced the Hong Kong Elder Care Resource Map into the app. This tool connects users to 2,300+ health and social service units across all 18 districts. In just the first three months, it facilitated over 2,000 resource searches, helping older adults and caregivers easily locate community-based care services.
Community Outreach
The project has conducted 90+ app workshops, 35 talks and webinars, and participated in 7 large-scale exhibitions with 40+ health booths and home visits. These outreach initiatives have benefited over 16,000 individuals and involved 70+ partnering organizations, including elderly centres, caregiver centres, district health centres, and care teams.
Publicity & Media Engagement
The project has established an active presence on social media with over 8,500 followers and 10,000 YouTube subscribers. Media coverage has included interviews on Commercial Radio and Now Finance TV, as well as articles in HK01, Big Silver, SCMP, and the Hong Kong Economic Times, enhancing public awareness about healthy ageing and gerontechnology.
Awards & Academic Recognition
The Programme achieved outstanding results at the 10th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards in 2022, clinching two prizes that recognize the achievements in elderly care services, including "Innovation of the Year – Caregiver Model" for the elder care online courses and "Innovation of the Year – Technology" for iHealth Screen. It has also been featured at eight international conferences, gaining academic recognition through a full paper published at the Asian Conference on Aging & Gerontology (AGen2024) in Tokyo, and a Scientific Poster Award from the Hong Kong College of Gerontology Nursing in 2024.
