Facing difficulties: Strategies in promoting resilience in older adults

Introduction:
Older people have to face a number of major life events, such as unexpected illness/injury, conflict between family members, empty nest, and loss of spouse or good friends, etc in their late adulthood. Although the old Chinese saying, troubles appear in eighty to ninety percent of our whole life, is not a scientific estimation, quite often older people would use proverbs of this kind to comfort themselves and make themselves resilient in facing difficulties or adversities. Is there any way to enhance the resilience of older people? The aim of this seminar is to explain the definition of resiliency to the participants, and to discuss ways to promote resiliency in older people in order to facilitate them to deal with adversities more effectively.
